This is NOT the time To “JUDGE” India…

November 26th, 2008 | Fighter Story, Motivation | 6 Comments | Written by Fighter

Hey Everyone,

I’ve had many write to me about the terrorist attacks going on in Mumbai. Yes, I am in Mumbai. Yes, I’m very close to it all. I’m doing OK - but there is something to be learned here…(I’ll get to that in a minute).

It seems they are targeting 5 star hotels and my luck, I am in one of the top ones in Mumbai. Fortunately they have not attacked this one. However, my heart, best wishes and prayers go to the hundreds of innocent people who were not so fortunate.

Not a moment to judge India…

I am quite taken back by comments like “Man, it’s great to be American…” and things. These attacks effect everyone around the world. What India needs is your prayers right now - NOT your judgements.

Also, they are targetting US Citizens and UK Citizens specifically, so this has global impact and it’s not a “country thing.”

Lesson Learned…Being a Fighter Does NOT Mean Taking Unnecessary Risks…

I was actually scheduled to LEAVE Mumbai just a few hours from when the attacks started. My flight is still leaving and I am fairly close to the airport.

However, the advice of many in the area was that we should cancel our flights and not take any unnecessary risks.

This is exactly what I have done.

For a few I did have the attitude of “Whatever happens, happens…I want to go home” - Afterall, I’ve been traveling for a month now and really want to go home.

However, I had to use sense. This is teaching me a LOT about fighting my own arrogance and “sense of security.”

Time To Come Together, Not Make Smart Remarks…

I really want to reach out to everyone and ask that they provide their SUPPORT right now rather than gloating about the benefits of their current situation (aka not being in India).

This is tragic, 80 are already dead and over 200 are injured.

To all the 100+ hostages, I pray for your safety - this is a true time to fight. A time no one ever wants to face.

Does a Leader Have To Manipulate?

November 5th, 2008 | leadership | 1 Comment | Written by Fighter

Does a leader have to be maniuplative?I was recently having a conversation with a friend of mine, we were talking about “leadership” and what it takes. He’s currently in a position where he might have to step up and take control; it seems that he is concerned.

We were chatting about how he should approach certain problems and he made a statement that made me think…

I was giving him some “sneaky” advice about how to talk to people and well…get them to do what YOU want.

His response:

“But I don’t want to be manipulative…”

hmm…”Is that what I am?” - Time for a “self-check” - one of those moments where you wonder “Have I gone from good to evil some where along the way?”

Let me give you some background about why I felt this way…

I checked the definition of the word “manipulation” and I actually found two completely contradictory definitions in the dictionary right next to each other.

Here are the two definitions:

Skillful or artful management.

and…

Shrewd or devious management, especially for one’s own advantage.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they seem to be the exact opposite. One seems to be a compliment and the other seems to be slanderous.

My personal opinion is that “manipulation” has been taken the wrong way - but it does sound like a negative word. So, after lots of thinking I realized that “No, I’m not evil, I’m not really manipulating anyone…I’m INFLUENCING them…”

Using Your Manipulative Powers For GOOD….

Here’s the blatant truth whether you like it or not. All good leaders, political, CEOs, religious (you name it) are INCREDIBLY manipulative - they know how to get what they want from a MASS of people.

But, here’s what differentiates between good and evil…

Are they using it for GOOD or for BAD?

If you’re using it for good then let’s call it INFLUENCING and not manipulation…

Bottom Line, 99% of People Are Followers…

Here is the next blatant truth for you: most people are followers, not leaders. We’re taught to be that way from birth. Even religions are built with hierarchy - you are to FOLLOW…

So…because of this, if you want to be a leader, you have no choice but to learn how to influence.

A good leader has to motivate and get the mass to do what he/she feels is the best to do.

Leaders Get Inside Heads…

Bottom line, you need to be able to get into the heads of others, lower their red flags, gain their trust and then lead them in a direction.

The powers of influence can be enormous, use them wisely and use them only for good - but you have to use them.

In the coming weeks, I’ll share some of my *sneaky* techniques here, they already did wonders for my friend (from what I’m hearing)…

What’s The Longest Flight You’ve Ever Taken?

November 3rd, 2008 | Random | 7 Comments | Written by Fighter

Longest flight ever taken?Ok, so I KNOW you’re reading this blog, I can see you. But, you’re not responding! I feel un-loved.

So, here’s a fun question, leave your answer in the comment below (it won’t kill you!)

What’s the longest flight you’ve ever taken?

I’m leaving for my own version of “Tour Asia” on Tuesday - getting pretty excited about it!

I start in Hong Kong (1 day), then to Malaysia, Singapore and land up in Mumbai (best city in the world).

Yes, it’s for work, but who says I’m not taking some down-time during it :)

Just a few days after I return to DC, I’m on my way to Los Angeles for our own conference (the one and only we have hosted this year).

Well, anyways, my flight on Tuesday from DC to first major stop in Asia is a whopping 40 hours (including layovers). What the holy begeezes.

The longest I have ever done before this is 22 hours to India.

What about you?
